In Siena’s Palazzo Pubblico, there is a series of frescoes painted by Ambrogio Lorenzetti in the 14th century called the ‘Allegory of Good and Bad Government’. They depict that good government leads to peace and wealth and full harvests, while bad government results in war and famine.
