Developed by the OECD in partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), thisreport is the second addressing gender gaps in labour market participation and entrepreneurship in theregion. Its precursor, Strengthening Women’s Entrepreneurship in ASEAN Countries, took a broaderperspective in analysing the general policy landscape for advancing the role of women in the labour market,as entrepreneurs and business owners.

Strengthening Women’s Entrepreneurship in Agriculture in ASEAN Countries brings the discussion on thetopic a step further. It does so, by focussing on how the combination between factors, such as genderdiscrimination, extensive unpaid work activities due to care obligations, the lack of adapted trainingprogrammes, barriers of access to quality jobs and to starting new businesses, hampers the economicprospects of women in agriculture and farming. It identifies the challenges that they generate and discussesthe policies to support the creation of an environment where their employment and business opportunitiescan prosper, based on international practices.
