The 2020 edition of the Living Planet Report – abiodiversity index developed by the ZoologicalSociety of London and the WWF – containsnumerous alarming statistics about the troubledrelationship between humankind and theecosystems upon which we ultimately depend.Perhaps none expresses the fundamentalimbalance as clearly as this: “To feed and fuel our21st-century lifestyles, we are overusing the Earth’sbiocapacity by at least 56%.”1
