The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognizes migrants’ positive contribution to inclusive growth and sustainable development, beyond the simple economic benefits of migration. It emphasizes the need for international cooperation to develop coherent responses to“ensure safe, orderly and regular migration involving full respect for human rights and the humane treatment of migrants regardless of migration status, of refugees and of displaced persons” (article 29).
