Forrest Capie is Emeritus Professor of Economic History at the BusinessSchool, City University, London. He has taught at the London School ofEconomics, the University of Warwick and the University of Leeds. Hehas been a British Academy Overseas Fellow at the National Bureau,New York, a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics, anda Visiting Scholar at the IMF. He has written widely on money, banking,and trade and commercial policy. He was Head of Department of Bankingand Finance at City from 1989 to 1992, and Editor of the Economic HistoryReview from 1993 to 1999. His commissioned history of the Bank ofEngland was published by Cambridge University Press in 2010.

Geoffrey Wood is Emeritus Professor of Economics at the BusinessSchool, City University, London and Emeritus Professor of MonetaryEconomics at the University of Buckingham. A graduate of Aberdeen andEssex Universities, he has worked at the Federal Bank of St. Louis andthe Bank of England. Overseas he has advised several central banks andnational treasuries. He is an adviser to several financial institutions andtwo pension funds, and was an adviser to the Treasury Select Committeeof the House of Commons, and to the Parliamentary Banking Commission.He has authored, co-authored, or edited over thirty books, and haspublished over 100 academic papers. His fields of interest are monetaryeconomics, monetary history and financial regulation.
