Michel Girard is a senior fellow at CIGI,where he contributes expertise in the area ofstandards for big data and artificial intelligence(AI). His research strives to drive dialogueon what standards are, why they matter inthese emerging sectors of the economy, andhow to incorporate them into regulatory andprocurement frameworks. He highlights issuesthat should be examined in the design of newtechnical standards governing big data and AI inorder to spur innovation while also respectingprivacy, security and ethical considerations.In addition, Michel provides standardization adviceto help innovative companies in their efforts toaccess international markets. He contributesto the CIO Strategy Council’s standardizationactivities and advises the Chartered ProfessionalAccountants of Canada on data governance issues.
