The coronavirus pandemic continues tohave a profound effect on economiesand industries the world over. Theroad to recovery will be slow, but withvaccine rollouts now well underway inmany countries, it no longer feels rashto believe that the end is in sight. In thislatest edition of ECI Media Management’sInflation Report, we explore the effect ofthe pandemic on media inflation in 2020,and provide our forecasts on how it willrecover globally, by region and in keymarkets in 2021. Our objective, as always,is to ensure that marketers have theinformation they need to make the rightinvestment decisions for their brands.2020 was a difficult year for the offlinemedia industry, with global pricing fallinginto deflation for TV, Newspapers,Magazines, OOH and Radio. DigitalDisplay and Digital Video showed moreresilience, maintaining their inflationarypositions even at the worst of the crisis– illustrative of a consumer shift to digitalbrought about by lockdown restrictions.
