Decarbonising marine: the integration of low carbon technologiesIn our report The second frontier: Towards low carbon shipping, 10 Feb 2021, weexplore the strategies and technologies being utilised on the path to decarbonisingthe marine sector. These include short/medium-term fuel solutions such as LNG andbiofuels, and longer-dated low carbon technologies such as wind and solar, andgreen hydrogen and ammonia, with the latter two arguably being the most promisinglong-term fuel options. In addition, alternative strategies including speed reductionsas well as digital solutions such as blockchain technologies and autonomousshipping can drive emission reductions via increased efficiency of marine transport.In this report we outline eight companies under our coverage globally at HSBC whoare at the forefront of this transition.
