 Flawed research incorrectly asserts that big businesses funnel a disproportionate amount  of money into Washington and that antitrust is necessary to safeguard democracy. 

 Analysis by the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) shows that  firms with more revenue, higher profits, and greater market value spend less on lobbying per dollar of revenue than smaller firms do. 

 ITIF’s analysis also shows that mergers reduce lobbying expenditures, while corporate  spin-offs increase lobbying, on average. 

 In short, employing antitrust in an effort to safeguard democracy would increase  corporate lobbying, not decrease it, while also harming consumers and economic growth.

 Critics also overlook the fact that small businesses wield significant political power  through trade associations and geographic advantages.
