The Asia Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Monitor (ASM) 2021 Volume IV was prepared by Shigehiro Shinozaki, senior economist, Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department (ERCD) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Daisuke Miyakawa, chief economist, UTokyo Economic Consulting Inc. (UTEcon). The research was assisted by Keiichi Goshima, Kazusato Oko, and Hiroki Matsumoto, from the UTEcon. Administrative support was provided by Richard Supangan and Maria Frederika Bautista.
The country Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Index (SME-DI) model was run using micro, small, and mediumsized enterprise (MSME) data extracted from business registration data received from Viet Nam’s Agency for Business Registration. We very much appreciate its support for this SME-DI project.
In 2021, we also concluded the agreement with Credit Bureau Cambodia (CBC) led by Sothearoath Oeur, chief executive officer of CBC, to further develop the country’s SME-DI by expanding use of granular MSME data.
However, due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, we faced a critical issue on virtual data sharing between ADB and CBC teams. Thus, this report does not include the updated SME-DI for Cambodia. We hope to continue our collaboration with CBC for this initiative.
