Today’s accountant operates in a rapidly changing business environment. Business operations and transactions are increasingly global, and entities must consider the sustainability and social consequences of their operations. The global fi nancial crisis has highlighted the use of a range of fi nancial derivatives, and the limited information provided about their use and value. Globalisation has led to international convergence of accounting practices, which in turn has led to substantial changes in those accounting practices. Global warming has resulted in the introduction of emissions trading schemes or carbon tax requirements in many jurisdictions.
